Ubicada entre el océano Pacífico y el mar Caribe, Costa Rica es reconocida por su extraordinaria biodiversidad, sus impresionantes paisajes y su cultura de paz. La expresión Pura Vida, utilizada para saludar, agradecer y celebrar, representa una manera positiva y sencilla de vivir: apreciar la naturaleza, compartir con los demás y disfrutar cada momento.
“¡Vivan siempre el trabajo y la paz!”. Estas palabras, visibles desde nuestra llegada al aeropuerto, parecían anticipar el espíritu del país que estábamos a punto de descubrir.
Viajamos con un querido grupo de amigos, entre ellos el reconocido comunicador y locutor Osvaldo Vega, quien nos ayudó a documentar esta aventura para compartirla con nuestros lectores. Desde el principio comprendimos que no sería simplemente un viaje para conocer nuevos paisajes, sino una experiencia para vivir juntos.
Un hogar lejos de casa
Nuestra travesía comenzó en Enchanted Valley Resort, un tranquilo refugio de cabañas rústicas estilo camping o glamping, ubicado en Valle Azul. Rodeado de vegetación tropical, flores exóticas y los sonidos de la fauna costarricense, el lugar nos invitaba a desconectarnos de las preocupaciones cotidianas y reconectarnos con la naturaleza.
Sin embargo, la verdadera magia de Enchanted Valley está en sus propietarios, la familia Morales, residente de Lakeland, y en la cálida atención de la administradora Juana Morales y su equipo, quienes reflejan la hospitalidad que distingue al pueblo tico.
Con amor y entusiasmo, comparten orgullosamente lo mejor de su país natal: sus paisajes, gastronomía, cultura y tradiciones. A bordo de su vehículo con capacidad para 18 pasajeros, fueron nuestros anfitriones y guías, llevándonos a descubrir lugares inolvidables.
Nuestro primer encuentro con la naturaleza
Nuestra primera aventura nos llevó a las espectaculares cataratas del Río Agrio, nuestro primer gran encuentro con la belleza natural de Costa Rica. Rodeadas de un verdor intenso, parecían sacadas de un cuento. Entre el sonido del río, el aire fresco y la fuerza de las cascadas, comprendimos que allí la naturaleza no solo se contempla: se escucha, se siente y se vive.
La biodiversidad nos acompañó durante todo el viaje. En las cabañas teníamos un vecino muy particular: un oso perezoso que dormía plácidamente entre las ramas, indiferente a nuestras voces y fotografías. También vimos loros, tucanes, iguanas, pequeños monos, insectos tropicales y vegetación y flores de formas y colores sorprendentes.
En Costa Rica siempre parece haber algo cantando, volando, trepando o escondiéndose entre la vegetación.
Arenal: entre el fuego y el agua
El siguiente capítulo nos llevó al majestuoso volcán Arenal. Su inconfundible silueta se perdía entre las nubes y las montañas cubiertas de neblina, creando un paisaje imponente y misterioso.
Después de admirarlo, nos relajamos en las cálidas aguas termales, calentadas por la actividad volcánica de la región. Rodeados de jardines y abundante vegetación, sentimos cómo el agua aliviaba nuestros cuerpos cansados mientras el sonido de las cascadas completaba aquella experiencia renovadora.
El Arenal nos mostró dos fuerzas opuestas, pero profundamente conectadas: el fuego que nace en el interior de la tierra y el agua que devuelve la calma.
Sabores, colores y tradiciones
Cada mañana comenzaba con un generoso desayuno preparado con esmero: huevos, gallo pinto, tamales y mucho más. También disfrutamos de deliciosas carnes y cerdo asado, pero las frutas merecen una mención especial.
La piña, la papaya, el maracuyá, el mango y la guanábana parecían más frescos, dulces y aromáticos. También probamos el mamón chino, conocido en otros lugares como rambután, una fruta nueva para mí que rápidamente pasó a formar parte de esta experiencia.
Una de nuestras excursiones más coloridas nos llevó a Sarchí, cuna de la artesanía costarricense. Allí admiramos sus famosas carretas típicas, decoradas a mano con flores, figuras geométricas y brillantes colores. Cada taller contaba una historia de creatividad, trabajo y orgullo cultural.
Antiguamente, estas carretas transportaban el café desde las montañas hasta los puertos. Hoy son uno de los símbolos más queridos del país y el vínculo perfecto con la historia del café costarricense.
Conocido como el “grano de oro”, el café impulsó durante generaciones el desarrollo económico y social de Costa Rica. Compartir una taza es saborear su tierra, el trabajo y las tradiciones de su pueblo.
Del Pacífico a Isla Tortuga
Desde Puntarenas emprendimos un crucero de un día hacia Isla Tortuga. Costa Rica ya nos había mostrado sus montañas, volcanes, bosques y cataratas; ahora nos regalaba la belleza de sus costas y aguas tropicales.
Durante la travesía bailamos por horas al ritmo de la música. Entre risas y la alegría de estar juntos, el barco se convirtió en una verdadera pista de baile sobre el océano. La brisa marina, el paisaje y la energía del grupo hicieron de aquel recorrido uno de los momentos más divertidos del viaje.
Ese día confirmó algo que ya comenzábamos a comprender: en Costa Rica, la aventura y la alegría siempre encuentran la manera de viajar juntas.
Miedo, valor y libertad
Nuestra última aventura fue también la más intensa: lanzarnos en tirolesa o ziplining sobre el bosque tropical en la zona del Arenal.
Suspendidos, en algunos tramos, a más de 200 metros, aproximadamente 650 pies, sobre el suelo, sentíamos nuestros corazones latir con fuerza mientras el aire fresco y, por momentos, la lluvia golpeaban nuestros rostros. Muy por debajo, las copas de los árboles formaban un inmenso mar verde.
Nuestro grupo incluía personas de diferentes edades y varios adultos mayores, demostrando que el espíritu aventurero no tiene edad. Cada plataforma representaba un nuevo desafío: respirar profundamente, confiar en Dios, en el equipo y en los guías… y luego soltarnos.
Mientras volábamos de una montaña a otra, el miedo se transformaba en emoción, libertad y orgullo. Al llegar al final, no solo habíamos cruzado el bosque suspendidos sobre el vacío; también habíamos superado nuestros propios límites.
Un viaje que permanece en nosotros
Más que unas vacaciones, estos siete días fueron una experiencia para los sentidos y el alma. Costa Rica nos impresionó con sus paisajes, sabores y biodiversidad, pero la calidez de quienes nos recibieron y las amistades compartidas transformaron un hermoso destino en un recuerdo inolvidable.
Regresamos con el sonido de las cataratas, la majestuosidad del Arenal, los colores de Sarchí, la brisa del Pacífico, el sabor del café, la emoción del ziplining y las risas de cada excursión. Sobre todo, nos llevamos una lección sencilla, pero poderosa: la vida se disfruta más cuando se comparte.

We traveled with a beloved group of friends, including well-known broadcaster and radio personality Osvaldo Vega, who helped us document the adventure to share with our readers. From the beginning, we knew this would be more than a trip to see new places. It would be an experience to enjoy together.
A Home Away From Home
Our journey began at Enchanted Valley Resort, a peaceful retreat of rustic, camping or glamping-style cabins in Valle Azul. Surrounded by tropical vegetation, exotic flowers and the sounds of Costa Rican wildlife, the resort invited us to leave our daily concerns behind and reconnect with nature.
However, the true magic of Enchanted Valley lies in the Morales family, the owners who also reside in Lakeland, and in the warm care provided by manager Juana Morales and her team, who embody the hospitality that distinguishes the Costa Rican people.
With love and enthusiasm, they proudly share the best of their native country, its landscapes, cuisine, culture, and traditions. Traveling in their 18-passenger vehicle, they became our hosts and guides, taking us to discover unforgettable places.
Our First Encounter With Nature
Our first adventure took us to the spectacular Río Agrio waterfalls—our first unforgettable encounter with Costa Rica’s natural beauty. Surrounded by intense greenery, the waterfalls looked like something from a storybook. Listening to the river, breathing the cool mountain air and feeling the power of the cascading water, we understood that in Costa Rica, nature is not simply admired. It is heard, felt and lived.
Biodiversity surrounded us throughout the trip. Near our cabins, we had a very unusual neighbor: a sloth sleeping peacefully among the branches, completely unfazed by our voices and photographs. We also saw parrots, toucans, iguanas, small monkeys, tropical insects, and vegetation and flowers in surprising shapes and colors.
In Costa Rica, something always seems to be singing, flying, climbing or hiding among the leaves.
Arenal: Between Fire and Water
The next chapter of our journey took us to the majestic Arenal Volcano. Its unmistakable silhouette disappeared into the clouds and mist-covered mountains, creating a powerful and mysterious landscape.
After admiring the volcano, we relaxed in warm thermal springs heated by the region’s volcanic activity. Surrounded by gardens and lush vegetation, we felt the water soothe our tired bodies as the sound of waterfalls completed the renewing experience.
Arenal showed us two seemingly opposite yet deeply connected forces: the fire born within the earth and the water that restores a sense of calm.
Flavors, Colors and Traditions
Each morning began with a generous breakfast prepared with great care: eggs, gallo pinto, tamales and much more. We also enjoyed delicious meats and roasted pork, but the fruit deserves a special mention.
The pineapple, papaya, passion fruit, mango and soursop seemed fresher, sweeter and more aromatic. We also tried mamón chino, known elsewhere as rambutan, a fruit that was new to me and quickly became part of the experience.
One of our most colorful excursions took us to Sarchí, known as the birthplace of Costa Rican craftsmanship. There, we admired its famous traditional oxcarts, hand-painted with flowers, geometric patterns and brilliant colors. Every workshop told a story of creativity, hard work and cultural pride.
These oxcarts once transported coffee from the mountains to the ports. Today, they are among Costa Rica’s most beloved symbols and provide the perfect connection to the history of its coffee.
Known as the “golden bean,” coffee helped drive Costa Rica’s economic and social development for generations. Sharing a cup of Costa Rican coffee is like tasting the land, labor and traditions of its people.
From the Pacific to Tortuga Island
From Puntarenas, we set out on a day cruise to Tortuga Island. Costa Rica had already shown us its mountains, volcanoes, forests and waterfalls; now it revealed the beauty of its coastline and tropical waters.
During the journey, we danced for hours. Surrounded by laughter and the joy of being together, the boat became a dance floor on the ocean. The sea breeze, beautiful scenery and energy of our group made the cruise one of the most entertaining moments of the trip.
That day confirmed something we were already beginning to understand: in Costa Rica, adventure and joy always find a way to travel together.
Fear, Courage and Freedom
Our final adventure was also our most intense: zip-lining over the tropical forest in the Arenal region.
At some points, we were suspended more than 200 meters, approximately 650 feet, above the ground. Our hearts pounded as the cool air and occasional rain struck our faces. Far below us, the treetops formed an immense green sea.
Our group included people of different ages and several older adults, proving that the spirit of adventure has no age limit. Each platform presented a new challenge: take a deep breath, trust God, the equipment and our guides…and then let go.
As we soared from one mountain to another, fear turned into excitement, freedom and pride. By the time we reached the end, we had done more than cross the tropical forest suspended above the open air, we had also pushed beyond our own limits.
A Journey That Remains With Us
More than a vacation, these seven days were an experience for the senses and the soul. Costa Rica impressed us with its landscapes, flavors and biodiversity, but the warmth of those who welcomed us and the friendships we shared transformed a beautiful destination into an unforgettable memory.
We returned home carrying the sound of the waterfalls, the majesty of Arenal, the colors of Sarchí, the Pacific breeze, the flavor of the coffee, the thrill of zip-lining and the laughter shared on every excursion. Most importantly, we brought home a simple but powerful lesson: life is more enjoyable when it is shared.

During the journey, we danced for hours. Surrounded by laughter and the joy of being together, the boat became a dance floor on the ocean. The sea breeze, beautiful scenery and energy of our group made the cruise one of the most entertaining moments of the trip.
That day confirmed something we were already beginning to understand: in Costa Rica, adventure and joy always find a way to travel together.
Fear, Courage and Freedom
Our final adventure was also our most intense: zip-lining over the tropical forest in the Arenal region.
At some points, we were suspended more than 200 meters, approximately 650 feet, above the ground. Our hearts pounded as the cool air and occasional rain struck our faces. Far below us, the treetops formed an immense green sea.
Our group included people of different ages and several older adults, proving that the spirit of adventure has no age limit. Each platform presented a new challenge: take a deep breath, trust God, the equipment and our guides…and then let go.
As we soared from one mountain to another, fear turned into excitement, freedom and pride. By the time we reached the end, we had done more than cross the tropical forest suspended above the open air, we had also pushed beyond our own limits.
A Journey That Remains With Us
More than a vacation, these seven days were an experience for the senses and the soul. Costa Rica impressed us with its landscapes, flavors and biodiversity, but the warmth of those who welcomed us and the friendships we shared transformed a beautiful destination into an unforgettable memory.
We returned home carrying the sound of the waterfalls, the majesty of Arenal, the colors of Sarchí, the Pacific breeze, the flavor of the coffee, the thrill of zip-lining and the laughter shared on every excursion. Most importantly, we brought home a simple but powerful lesson: life is more enjoyable when it is shared.
